pi(e) day 2013

Okay, I have to know:  is anybody making pies today?  Which ones?  I think I'll make shepherd's pie for dinner, with a rosti top instead of mashed potatoes, because the rosti is a better fit texturally.  If I get an uncharacteristic burst of afternoon energy I might try to tackle empanadas, but I don't see that happening.  I guess I could do quiche, but John is not a fan.  For dessert I think I'll make two pies--Emmett really wants chocolate chess, and I'm tempted to indulge him because it's the only pie he'll eat because he's broken inside.  For the other one I know Grant would want banana cream, but then that's two really sweet, rich pies, and I want something brighter like lemon or apple.  What to do?  It is a conundrum, to be sure.  I wish I had a whole bunch of small pie plates, so everybody could make their own pie . . . that would be the coolest.

Make lemon. That sounds appropriate for March. A pie is not the cards for me today, but I am making eggplant calzone for dinner.
I'm interested in the rosti top for shepherd's pie.

I got Maddy a bunch of little pie dishes. It would never work for me because I HATE rolling out dough and putting it in the plate. I will probably make a macadamia cream pie because I have some I need to use up before my MIL brings me more.

Way to go making all of these pies on pi day. I think you should definitely make the lemon. Does lemon go with chocolate chess? I just read about your day at the beach, and now I wish I was there right now. Paradise! Sorry about your bees . . .

I'm making a banana cream, which I have made twice in the last... two months. but THIS time, I'm going to slice the bananas on the bias and layer them over the top of the pie. fancy.

The thought of pie construction makes me tired. I'll come and eat yours.

Your trip looks like so much fun. Thanks for sharing it.
