maybe I'm going blind

Well, I guess I'm surrounded by unsupportive naysayers, because you would not BELIEVE the blowback I am getting about my plans to make a smorgastarta.  Here's the background:  a while ago I saw a piece about smorgastartas on The Kitchn, and fell instantly in love.  Who would not want a sandwich cake, which is what a smorgastarta is?  Idiots, that's who.  But everyone I told about it made rude noises and comments, and when I decided yesterday that for my pending 37th I was going to treat myself and make a smorgastarta, they all chimed right in again with the negative energy.  Boo to them, they are closed-minded and provincial.  Do they see the total hypocrisy in their refusal to accept the smorgastarta?  What is a club sandwich, after all, but a layered sandwich?  It's just a small smorgastarta!

I'm going to have a tomato layer, a radish and butter layer, a bacon layer, an avocado layer, and maybe a cucumber layer, and it is going to be wonderful on grounds of adventure alone.  I can't decide whether to make it rectangular or circular, though.  There are benefits to both, I believe.  Now that I think about it, I think a rectangular one will be best, because I'm making a double-layered pavlova for my cake.  That way I can have two kinds of shapes.  Variety is important.

Were you inspired by this?

(haha, one of the captcha words is "goobjob". I think I'm going to start using that. Probably an insult, right?)

Ha, I saw that one when I was looking around for ideas, and it did serve to make me more cautious in my choice of fillings. Goobjob reminds me of Gob Bluth, so yeah, it's got to be an insult.

The first time I saw a picture of a smorgastarta, I was enchanted. I applaud your choice - naysayers can be given the heel pieces of bread, then let them eat cake (the sweet one)!
